Dance, Dance!
[R]: Hi everyone welcome to this week’s podcast we are here today broadcasting live from the beautiful University of South Florida and we have a very special guest with us today
[M]: Hi I’m Mansi Patel and I’m the director of special events for dance marathon 2011.
[R]: And that is exactly what we want to talk about today, Dance Marathon. I believe it is coming up this weekend.
[M]: Yes it is Saturday from 12-5 on Sunday morning and it’s a 17 hour party for a purpose we raise money for All Children’s Hospital St. Pete through the Children’s Miracle Network. And basically the dancers come out, volunteers come out, the families come out and we just have a good time for 17 hours, dance our hearts, out and kind of just remind everyone why you know this is such an important cause. Kids with cancer who don’t have the money, we’re trying to help them get better and live better lives.
[R]: Now, I know you got involved with Dance Marathon at another University. What was it about Dance Marathon that stuck out to you? Why did you get involved?
[M]: Dance marathon is something that once you are there you understand the impact that you create for these families. We’ve been to hospital visits. We’ve seen patients that we’ve helped, the family that come out. We’ve had miracle stories every week. It’s just a great way to get involved in the community and a great way to give back.
[R]: Very cool it sounds like it a great cause and something you’re obviously passionate about. How can students here at USF get involved this weekend?
[M]: This weekend you can register to be a dancer, you can register to be a volunteer which means volunteers don’t have to be there the whole time, dancers have to be there the whole 17 hours. But it’s filled with games and food and prizes. You get to meet all the families. If you want to come out on the day of we have people that come out during visitor hours which are 5 o’clock to 10 o’clock we’ll have 93.3 DJs there. We’ll have different bands. We’ll have lots of free, fun activities and you’re welcome to stay to register the day of and you’re also welcome to come at 11 o’clock and we’ll have t-shirts and prizes and all that for you all so.
[R]: This is a huge deal right? I mean the communities involved the campuses involved. How much money have you raised and how much are you looking to raise?
[M]: Well, last year we raised $30,000 and this year we are hoping to surpass that. SO far we’ve raised about $16,000 and by the end of the week we definitely plan on hitting $30,000. The day of we raise a lot of money between the people who come and visit us and you know you have to give money to get out of jail which we have there and so there’s a lot of money to raise money the day of I think last year we raised about 17,000 the day of so.
[R]: Wow. That’s, that’s absolutely phenomenal. Well very cool. for those students who might want to get involved in you know in doing something like you are, being apart of the board how can they get involved. how can they get involved for next year and maybe years in the future.
[M]: well there are application up until Sunday for the CLCE different positions whether it be Dance Marathon or BULLserve or any of that and basically you just fill out an application you’ll have interviews following that and if you unfortunately do not get a Director’s position we always have committee members that we need, we always have volunteers that we need. SO there are lots of ways to get involved.
[R]: Very cool and that website is just www.leadandserve.usf.edu if you scroll in thereon the bottom right corner you will find the application links for those board positions. So definitely encourage you to visit the website and come out this weekend what time again?
[M]: It’ll be noon on Saturday to 5 in the morning on Sunday17 straight hours of dancing and fun!
[R]: Perfect. And I’ll be there you’ll be there we’ll have a ton of people there. Food, music, DJs like you said so we hope to see you there. hope you have a good time and we hope to help raise some money for a good cause.
[M]: Cool. Thank you guys so much!
[R]: Thanks and GO BULLS!
[M]: Go bulls.
